I was super lazy on Sunday so I had a “do laundry, watch Gossip Girl, beautify” day.

I re-colored my hair red to cover roots/greys.  I painted my toenails metallic lime.  And I did my nails (for the first time in months, I swear).

This is the Sally Hanson nail polish that sticks on.

I just don’t have the patience to let my nails dry at home – they always smudge.  I don’t have the time or money to go get manicures.  But I finally figured that spending $8.50 every couple of weeks on these stick on jobbies isn’t a bad thing.  They’re pretty hard to mess up, are instantly dry & have tons of cute colors & patterns – helllooooo fishnet fingertips!

There wasn’t a lot of skating in my week this time.  It’s been a rough week.

Sunday was the Pride Festival (see previous post).

Monday: 30 minutes on the elliptical at lunch time, workout at practice: ran 2 laps around the rink, 25 pushups, 50 squats, 100 bicycles.

Wednesday: skipped practice – just way too tired.

Saturday morning: skating class.  Spent more time practicing switching directions.  I’m pretty sure I’m getting better at it.

Today: skipping practice, figuring out a workout schedule so I get one in almost every day between now & November 1st (Skating Assessment Day!)

I’m feeling really down this week & I’m sure that only working out a couple times this week is a major contributing factor.  Also, I ate like crap this weekend.  (Actually I eat badly every weekend.  It’s one of my many terrible habits that I intend to break.) And my feet hurt – tendinitis is acting up in my right foot & something else is happening to my left foot so there have have been a lot of epsom salt baths & RICEing.  I’ve even pulled out my boot & started wearing it around the house again, it’s that bad.

The foot issues make me wonder if I really can do this.  But I see no other option.  I HAVE to.

I helped man the Fort Myers Derby Girl booth at the Pride festival on Sunday.

Had a lot of fun people watching & hanging out with Jax in the Box & Klymaxxx.

When I got there deJenerate, Ana Fire, Serenity Storm & Mother Storm were also there.  (Maybe I can steal a photo from Facebook later of all of us together!)

We met a lot of cool people, exhibit A below:

This group was super fun & hung out with us for a while.  I love the one girl’s blue & purple bangs.  So cute!  Hi, Tyler!

It was a good day & we got a lot of email addresses for people who are interested in coming to games or playing, reffing, NSOing or all of the above.  It’s appalling how many people don’t even know there is roller derby right at their fingertips!  Must. Tell.  The World!

The coach gave me a workout last Sunday & my muscles only really recovered on Wednesday despite major stretching after & a 30 minutes Monday on the elliptical at lunch time.  I have GOT to get better at recovery!

The workout was: 200 step-ups onto a normal chair, 100 sit-ups, 50 push-ups & 5 minutes per leg of a single leg squatty balance-y thing.  When he gave me the instructions I thought, “No fuckin’ way” but I’m proud to say I finished.

Signed back up for the gym.  Discovered Epsom salt baths.  New foot pain in my left foot led to the discovery of ice bath (for my feet).

Saturday morning at class I was working on something when I fell & overstretched something in my hip/groin area.  I iced it when I got home & I think it’s better now.  At first it didn’t want to support my weight & that step up off the rink was excruciating.

So to sum up I basically whined or wanted to whine all week LOL

Just some fun decor around the house.  I found it in the bargain bin last year after Halloween & it’s actually kind of gross – icky & sticky LOL.

Note to self: buy fake blood in the current year.

Also, did some fake baking (from a box) with some cute cupcake picks & wrappers.

Side note: I used cooking spray on the wrappers before I poured in the cake mix & they peel out so easily.

I don’t know why I didn’t think to try that sooner.  I hate losing half my cupcake because it’s stuck to the wrapper.

Hi there Melanie!!!!

Last night was the last home bout of the season.  The girls kicked ass (of course) & won by around 200 points.  Our team rocks!

I dressed up in my new tights.  I’m kind of loving the skort I wore too.  I might add it to my everyday rotation.  The tights weren’t as annoying to wear as I remember them being.  However, I’ve still come to the decision that I will not be a nylons/tights girl when I finally get to play.  Wearing them wasn’t so bad, it was pulling them up after a bathroom visit that was annoying.  I had to take great care to get everything back to how it was – I am SUCH a princess and the  pea (or pee?).

I spent the night carding people & selling beer cups.  A few people were pretty flattered to be carded LOL.  That was fun.

Afterward I split a steak & cheese sandwich & fries with Kissy d’ Fleur, double fisted some diet coke’s & headed home.  Yep, I’m still tired.  I wish the weekend were longer!

Now I’m looking forward to orientation night tomorrow.  Can’t wait to hear about all the new stuff that’s coming down the pipe for new girls!

Game day today!  Final home bout of the season.  One. More. Win. and they’ll have an undefeated home season.  I know the girls can do it!

I’m trying to rest my body as much as I can when I’m not skating, even though I know I need to be doing more & it’s frustrating.  My tendinitis is acting up in my right foot. The left foot is having some new pain altogether that I’ve never had before. My right shoulder is also flaring up – it’s bursitis I have that gets irritated every once in a while – I’ve had to have cortisone shot into it before but prescription strength ibuprofen seemed to help it last time.

If my tendinitis doesn’t go away my choices are: A. get a cortisone shot, which doesn’t help it heal, it just allays the pain, or B. end up in a boot & on my ass for a month. This can NOT happen.

I’m finally getting used to my new skates! I opted to leave the trucks loose since I know eventually I’ll need them this loose for mobility. It is an adjustment though for sure since I’m used to pretty tight trucks.

I feel like something has clicked with my skating.  I feel much more confident on skates all of a sudden.  It’s nice.

I discovered http://www.rollerderbyruleoftheday.com/ and am loving it!

I realized I was letting myself be afraid of falling again – no good!  So I decided to try jumping up & down in my skates to boost my confidence & prove I could do it.  Besides, if I fell I would realize that falling really isn’t that big of a deal when you’re wearing your pads (something I keep forgetting the longer I go without falling).

My friend Bellacose Blondie reminded me that “it’s all in the knees”.  So I went home, got suited up & did it.  I did it!  Lots of little hops, bending my knees on the landing – totally nailed it!

Today in a fit of insanity I decided to hit Walmart.  Yeah, crazy.  Anyway I checked out the Halloween section & discovered these awesome tights in our team colors!  They were only $3.50 each, oh yeeee-ah!

I can’t wait to wear a pair to the next game!

Monday – skipped practice – still wiped out from the hike on Sunday – ridiculous.

Tuesday – came home & cleaned the guest bath & office – felt like a super woman!

Wednesday – dinner with Chrissy, skating, practice.  Ran 1 lap, walked 1 lap.  My workout – held skates LOL.  Did a plyometrics routine for my arms using skates as weights.  Sore for days after…

Friday – fun night out with friends for Jean’s birthday. (see photo below: evidence that I have actual friends!)

Saturday – skate class in the am – felt like crap since I’m coming down with something.  Got to do the derby limbo bar drill, practice right cross overs & skating backwards.  Saturday morning class is so nice.  Wish I could have stayed longer but didn’t feel well.
