Another Apology Post

Saturday Aug 7, 2010

I’ve been ridiculously busy (as well as weathering a couple days without my computer due to virus) – too busy in fact to download any of the photos from my camera, let alone edit, upload & write about them.  Boo!

So anyway, just letting you know – my blog is still active LOL.  I just need some quiet time to spend with my camera.  I am so backlogged with things to write about – there will be loads of posts to come!

New DIY Coming Soon

Friday Jul 30, 2010

I just got two news DIY/sewing books.  I’m super excited to try some of the projects out!  I’ve also been hoarding some DIY materials, all ready for some recon.  See below for the various things I plan to give a second life:

I’m looking forward to making the time to do some DIY’s.  It makes me so happy to recycle an old favorite that doesn’t get worn anymore into something that will!

New Ruffle Top

Wednesday Jul 28, 2010

I went a little nuts shopping for tops for the cruise.  I pretty much have all my other clothes picked – I just need a couple really easy but cute t-shirts.  Almost everything I own requires some sort of layering because it’s burnout or see-through or has a weird neckline.  I just want to make dressing easy on the cruise so I can just grab that one layer to top off my cargo pants or shorts.   So, the latest: I hit TJMaxx for tees on clearance.  I nabbed this one, a Fenn Wright Manson for $12 and then a Creative Concepts studded top for $15.

Nine West wedges ($15, Marshalls), Target jeans ($4, thrifted), Fenn Robin Mason top ($12, TJMaxx), Gap jacket (The Gap)

Unfortunately, neither one will work for the cruise.  The neckline on this one is really weirdly droopy even though you can’t tell in the photo and the other one is dry clean only.  Now, normally this does not present a problem as  I will just hand wash & hope it doesn’t fall apart.  But, I wore the top this past Friday & spilled water on it.  It resulted in an annoying stain!  Water!  So, I’m going to try hand washing it, hoping it cleans it out.

Also, immediately after seeing this photo I ordered four new bras.  It’s amazing how bad clothing can look without the right foundation garments!

New Me Too Sandals

Monday Jul 26, 2010

I went on a bit of a shopping trip recently & to my surprise only purchased two things: a dress from Ross & a pair of sandals from Marshalls.  I just wore the dress  to an event last night & I’ll post about that later.  But the shoes I had to share.  They are one my favorite brands: Me Too.  The brand tends to put out very cushy, comfy shoes but we’re not talking slipper-like Aerosoles here.  Their shoes tend to have a bit of support as well which is exactly what my feel need in a casual shoe.

Me Too sandals ($25, Marshalls), pedi is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Rose Rush

These might actually make the cut for the cruise I’m going on in September.  We’ll see when it gets closer.  I’m really looking forward to packing for it & I plan to treat you to a post on the capsule wardrobe I’ll be taking.

Backdrop

Wednesday Jul 21, 2010

I tried out a new photo backdrop.  Only used it once – it’s just too shadowy in my bedroom.  Unlike my office though it is uncluttered & I love the contrast of the patterned curtain & the yellow chair.  Might have to try it again with more light or something.

I wore the bright ombre Adrienne Vittadini top again.  It’s just too cute not to pull it out once in a while.

My Sparkly Annie Hall Impression

Monday Jul 19, 2010

Here’s an outfit I put together to showcase the black sequin vest from Lane Bryant.  I’ve been waffling on if I should keep it since almost everything I try it with it looks waiter-y.  I did really like this combo so it survives another round in my closet.

Aerosoles kitten heels, ? black pants, Lane Bryant top & vest, Anna Sheffield for Target locket, Kohl’s black beaded necklace

Unfortunately, when I was in my car I leaned over & managed to catch the black bead necklace on the parking brake & all the beads went flying.  They’re everywhere & there’s no way I”m  going to find them & re-string it.  R.I.P. black beaded necklace.

4th of July

Wednesday Jul 14, 2010

The morning of the 4th I was up early to walk a 5k.  My friend Jo volunteered to walk/run with me the whole way & was very gracious about how slow I moved.  She did encourage me to run a bit & it helped me run more than I would have on my own.  We still managed to magically skip a lap though because of bad signage so we beat a lot of the runners.  This is the second time I’ve done that & it’s a little dispiriting.  But anyway, at least I got up, I got some exercise & got to spend some time with friends.  Next one I will be signing up for is in September so I have a good couple months to train.  Yay!

Anyway, we went home to relax & then reconvened for some 4th of July fun!  We ate out at IHOP – which is just such a decadenet treat!  Then on to Venetian Village to mosy about & play photo shoot.

Then we scored some Ben & Jerry’s to take to the beach with us, got a great parking spot & watched the fireworks.  Then went to her place & watched You, Me & Dupree – neither one of us had seen it in a while & it was really cute.  Love that Owen Wilson!  Good times.

Us in our adorable red, white & blue leis.  Aren’t we cute?

Saturday Night

Tuesday Jul 13, 2010

On Saturday night I went out with a friend to “carb-load” for our July 4th 5k.  We went to Noodles – which is always just divine.  I had their signature salad – which includes deep-fried artichokes, goat cheese & a light but sweet dressing.  I also had the lobster ravioli appetizer & their creme brulee.  Best I’ve ever had!  Honestly!

Saturday Day

Monday Jul 12, 2010

I went to see Eclipse with a friend on Saturday afternoon.  It’s my favorite so far.  I tried to re-watch Twilight beforehand & was kind of like, “Man, this movie is as subtle as a sledgehammer!”  Also, New Moon was a little boring for me.  Watching Bella be all depressed was not fun for me.  I am waiting (on the edge of my seat) to see how the last one will be.  I am pretty dissappointed that Burton won’t be directing but I’m sure it’ll be wild regardless.

** Spoiler Alert **
This one had a LOT more action, a prettier Rosalee & vampires that shattered like china.  Pretty awesome!  Oh, and not so much of a spoiler – oodles of shirtlessness.

Anyhow, this is what I wore to our matinee:

 Photobucket

Rockport sneakers ($20, Marshalls), Target jeans ($4, thrifted), DKNY tank ($4, outlet), beaded tank (Marshalls or TJMaxx), BCBG zippie (M or TJM), headband (Claire’s)

I love going to a matinee & smuggling in some candy.  But I buy the Diet Coke there since it is really good fountain soda & a bottle wouldn’t be the same.

Do you pay the high prices at the theater for snacks?

Extremely Cheap but Not Trashy

Sunday Jul 11, 2010

I scored this dress at Walmart for $7.  That’s right!  I love that the plaid is a modern black/white/grey mix rather than a bunch of random colors.  It’s also thin, super soft cotton which lends it the feel of a broken in favorite.  I pictured it with a denim jacket over top with the sleeves rolled up but never got that far.  (What?  It’s hot here.  And everywhere else, I hear.)  The cool metallic bib necklace is also from Walmart clearance -$5.

Photobucket

Tahari shoes (TJMaxx – $25?), Walmart dress ($7) & necklace ($5), Betsey Johnson belt (TJMaxx – $7?)

This was a Friday & when I went home to let the dogs out I changed into jeans & a comfy tee & then went to a friend’s house to watch movies & order pizza.  We watched the Hot Tub Time Machine.  It was pretty good.  I love that chubby kid with glasses that was in Sex Drive.  The pizza? Delicious.  The company? Awesome!
