Honk, honk. Honk, honk. This one was, for me, an excercise in self torment. It seemed to go on indefinitely. And truthfully I am not a huge Godard fan. I've seen Alphaville - meh. I unfortunately could not get through Breathless, as much as I wanted to like it. And Pierrot Le Fou is on my list to see, but maybe I should re-think it. The movie tells the story of the most awful couple on earth, a husband & wife who are on their way to murder her father to secure her inheritance. On the way they are caught in a horrible traffic jam, but they pass everyone on the left while honking & being honked at the whole way. For the most part they torment everyone they come across, while forging on toward their goal. There are car wrecks, arguments, politics, anarchists galore, yet I do not feel that I have learned anything from this movie. I also feel it was ridiculously pretentious. Yeah, we get it - the bourgeoisie = bad. They also pick up a hitchhiker who thinks he is God, get in a car wreck themselves, light some girl on fire, get ubducted by radical anarchists and eventually the wife eats the husband. I guess I just feel that this movie was all about how shocking and long-winded it could be and I have a hard time appreciating that. Although, I loved all the pretty colors! Ooooh, is that a shiny object? Oh, gotta go...
