Sex & the City and Shopping - Wheeeee!
- 6/17/2008
I finally took myself to see Sex & the City. What fun! It was like hanging out with old friends - old friends who attend all the major happenings & dress perfectly for them all. So many outfits to drool over. I want to be Carrie! But then again doesn't everyone? I actually thought Miranda outfits were better than in the series. I particularly loved the outfit she wore to the bridge to meet Steve. I've never been as into Charlotte's style - it's a little to clean & goodie goodie for me, though it works for her. Also, Samantha is a bit matchy-match & a little old school power suity for me even though I love watching her story unfold. There was such drama!
I did decide that as much as I love Carrie's choices, they wouldn't work for me quite the same since I live in a much more casual place that New York. If I showed up anywhere in fur I'd get some really funny looks. Also walking in heels everywhere would kill me. I am trying though! I wore the shoes that I photographed myself in this morning!
So, all in all, I laughed, I cried... I loved it! And of course, the fashion inspired me to go shopping afterwards.
You know, the sales just aren't around like they have been in the past. Maybe I just need to wait till a little deeper into the summer. That's when all the major clearance pricing starts happening around here. Summer is actually off-season in Florida. We are on exactly the opposite schedule as the north. I only bought two things on my sojourn to Marshalls. A red nylon & black leather handbag by DKNY pictured at right. It got it for a sixth of the retail price. It's cuter in person & has tons of division. I need that so all the crap I haul around will stay organized. I also picked up a really cool lightweight scarf in ivory, pale yellow & periwinle. It will make an appearance in an outfit this week so stay tuned! Labels: movie fashion, sex and the city, shopping

MissAmy's Fashion Philosophy - Part 3
- 6/04/2008
When I first moved to Naples, Florida I wouldn’t even allow myself to go to stores because my future husband and I were just starting out and paying the bills was paramount. I shopped more at thrift stores for a while. But as we became more comfortable with spending (ugh) I ended up being a huge fan of stores like TJMaxx and Marshalls. I still can’t bear to pay the full retail of say, Saks or Dillards, even though I love quality clothing. To this day I still take hours to go through any of those discount stores or a thrift shop to find a true value, a rare find. You have no idea, I get so excited. Giddy even.
To help my father understand, I have likened my shopping to hunting (his main hobby). You have to wear the proper gear (comfy clothes & shoes, hands free bag). You have to stake out your "bait piles" (mine are TJMaxx & thrift). You get a huge rush when you find your prey (Prada for $5!). You get another rush when you go in for the kill (at the register). You go over it in your head while gutting it (in my case, unpacking shopping bags, trying on, maybe photographing for ebay, etc...). Sorry about being graphic there, I did grow up with a father that was a major hunter. So anyway...
But now with the economy so shaky, I am trying to tone it down a bit so I’ve opened my store on ebay in order to support my shopping habit. I am still trying my hardest to find the best & most unique deals to pass on to the client. I hope my client is similar to me in that she wants something special & will appreciate paying less for it.
I do some shopping for the store at discount stores or anywhere else I find a good deal – some people only like brand new. But I’m trying to shift my focus more toward the gently used arena since there has been so much more attention lately to being “green”. I see my re-purposing of the clothes as a very positive “green” act of recycling older treasures & giving them a new home where someone new will appreciate & take care of them. Plus, I’m being frugal at the same time which does my make-do-er feel at it’s best. On the upper right is a photo of me in a recent find. I was in my hometown & went to the outlet mall I used to work at. Most of the stores are different now. My faves now are the Old Navy & Gap that are there. However, I found this great vest at the Eddie Bauer outlet for about 4% of the original price. Pretty good stuff... Labels: fashion philosophy, missamy bio, shopping

Girl-Time Shopping on a Saturday
- 5/20/2008
I spent a lovely day with my friend Chris out shopping & lunching this past Saturday.
We only went to a few stores but the fact that we both got things we absolutely needed was very fulfilling (me - bras, she - shoes). And then after that we had a wonderful lunch at Calistoga Bakery.
We were in Payless at one point & I definitely had to notice that they are stepping up their style, by leaps & bounds. (On a side note: They better - I read this morning that they will be hiking their prices by about 15% next year.)
My friend was so good as to model a couple styles for the blog. Such cute things they had! We both loved the ones shown in the photos.
The blue pair was just a gorgeous color of blue - unfortunately the heel was too high for my friend. (Note to self & all of you - friend needs low-heeled but beautiful blue shoes for work environment. Post to follow once I investigate further.)
The second pair was a great deep green color. The extra interesting thing about these was how the wedge was covered by the outside of the shoe. Unusual design feature! Loved it!
P.S. This style was only $8. I think my friend is going back! Can't blame her, these are hot!
Here's a link to the online Payless clearance. The green shoes aren't on there so you'll have to go to the store for these, but there are lots of other styles starting at $5. Go forth and purchase!Labels: payless shoes, shoes, shopping

Ebay Find - Bohemian Cape-like Blouse from BCBG
-
I found this blouse on ebay today. I absolutely adore it! Just picture it with crisp white jeans or even some flowy linen or khaki pants. Oh, oh, oh! Or contrasted with a sharp black pencil skirt. Oh, the possibilities!
The bidding is starting at $7.99 & no one has bid yet! Here's the link if you're digging it like I am.

I'm Soooo Tired!
- 5/12/2008
Ugh, I know this is off-topic but I am so tired. I think I may be coming down with something as well as having a packed schedule for the next month or so. Mostly either fun things - lunch & shopping w/ friends, Sex & the City movie coming out - or things I've been needing to do - visit the dermatologist, get my car up to snuff. So I will be happy to accomplish them. I just hope I don't hit a wall before finishing all of the to-do's.
I even have to grocery shop on the way home tonight - something I avoid at all costs. I simply did not have enough time in the day yesterday.
I did however (and this is where it gets relevant) get all the photos taken of all the new goodies for the store, which I will be doling out one by one. I'm so stingy! But I still need to resize & save the photos in their proper place & format. Another to-do on the list...
Well, tonight I am doing nothing but shopping (for groceries only!) and then going home to prepare dinner. And showering. But that is IT! :)
Have a great Monday & I hope I will have more to say/show you soon!Labels: shopping

Teaser - New Store Stock
- 5/11/2008
I shopped for the store yesterday. This is a teaser post since I don't have photos just yet. Sorry! I'm just so excited I wanted to pass it on.
I found all sorts of goodies - Donald J. Pliner shoes, Donna Karan linen jacket, Tory Burch polo shirt (coudn't believe my luck!) and loads more, many unknown brands which are totally on trend - ikat anyone?
I will be photographing, hopefully today, and then will be slowly adding the items one by one. I promise, I do this not to tease, but because I only have so much time to devote per day. I will be adding posts about some of the items as well, so watch this space!Labels: new to store, shopping

Latest TJMaxx Adventure!
- 5/08/2008
I stopped at TJMaxx on my way home last night. I just had a hankerin'. It's been a while.
There are 2 items that I am sure you will think are just a bit questionable, even when you take into account my fairly eclectic style. I can never define it. One day I'm break-dancy the next I'm classy.
When you see these pieces you might think I've gone crazy. But I've had this idea, see. I am going to do something with these bits so stay tuned! We'll see if I can bring to fruition what is in my brain...
The one below looks cute in this photo, but there are major pulls all over the fabric. I don't have a definite picture of what I will do with it yet. I will be forced to be very innovative. Hopefully.
Yes, I have lost my mind. I think there is something that could be great about this hippy-dippy linen & embroidered vest. The brand is even awful. It's "Art Wear" or something like that. Ick! I picked up a few other really cute things as well - a Tignanello purse which is a really great grey/brown taupe color & which looks very "Coach"-y, A new pair of sunglasses, a couple re-usable bags that read "The new It Bag" on the side. You can see these in MyStyleDiary under Cool Finds.
So, stay tuned to see what I can do with these pieces. Also, I will be shopping for the store this weekend, shopping with girlfriends the weekend after and Part 2 of my fashion philosophy will be up soon as well.
Have a great day, dears!Labels: shopping, tjmaxx

My Name is MissAmy and I Am a Shopaholic
- 4/22/2008
OK, I've been trying really hard to only shop to stock my online store. I fell off the wagon this weekend.
I had gotten a $50 gift visa card that came in the mail - it was a rebate thing. So, after the Relay for Life I decided to treat myself to a Marshalls outing. I normally don't shop for the store at Marshalls BTW because they don't have the really high end stuff that TJMaxx has had lately & they are not as inexpensive as the wonderful thrift stores I frequent. So, anyway, Marshalls called. I always pile loads of stuff in my cart and then go through it all to see what I really need/want. This is my plunder from that day! The tank is the brightest, richest pink ever - it's encroaching on neon. The embroidered panel is sewn through with gold thread, then attached to a cotton panel the same shape and then finally sewed onto the top. I love the softness, the drape & the one-of-a-kind feel it has. See how I wore it today. This skirt from The Limited was too cute to pass up. It is a really lightweight cotton with great colorblocking at the bottom. This will be great for spring/summer! I had to narrow the shoe take down to two pair. Shown below are the Bongo pair on the left - all manmade, but I don't care on this pair since they are a totally unbelievable shade of pearly silver. No one would believe leather comes in this color, so I don't care. Especially as they are really comfy with their wwedge heel. The second pair is Me Too black leather flats - toe is neither too square, round or pointy. I could have used a size down, I realized when I wore them yesterday but they are still comfy & cute! The last piece I got is this gorgeously cut blazer from Nine West. It's my favorite color - a dark grey and the cut is divine. Also, even though it is a size 8 - tiny for me! - it fits! Amazing. But on top of that it is so flatteringly cut I feel like a size 8! So, all in all, it all costed more than the $50 but not too much more. Essentially, I haven't been that naughty at all. Ha! I'm sure I'll get up to some creative things with these goodies but I did play with them on Sunday, so cruise on over to MyStyleDiary to see what fun I had with them so far!
