The latest
- Sunday, January 28, 2007
Here's the highlights of this week: I made my first sale on Etsy! I love Etsy - it's geared toward one-of-a-kind pieces, more of an independant co-op for handmade items, if you will. I definitely feel my work belongs there more than ebay. So, I took down my ebay store - I'll be using my account still to auction off clearance items eventually, but I don't think I need the storefront for that. The fees on Etsy are comparable & they store your photos for you. It's great.
The other highlight of this week was Anita's Hafla party that she threw for her birthday.
The party was awesome, with a really interesting mix of people. It was amazingly entertaining as Anita belly-danced with a sword on her head, twirled fire and drummed with a group of fellow entertainers. There was also much body decorating going on, including henna painting. Check out her site here - http://asyia.com/. She's performing soon up at Zorba's Greek restaurant. Maybe the DMJM girls will be up for a night out soon? Next one is next Saturday! Call me! Oh, Arch can come too. She is just a born entertainer! I wish I could explain the charisma she emanates. It was also interesting to notice how each dancer had their own style. There was a noticable contrast between her and the other pro that was there. Anita style is so "all the way" and dynamic. Her fellow dancer had a quieter almost petite style which was just as lovely. They were both amazing & made me way jealous. So I think I've been inspired to hike my bum down to the Crystal Ballroom for at least one class. You know what, those bellydance girls have so much fun & I need to do something to move my butt. So, shout out to Anita - thanks for inviting me, I had a lot fun. Maybe next time I'll be dancing too:)
Below is the jewelry, and actually the shirt, that I wore. It's my favorite shirt, I swear. I got it on clearance at Target - it's Isaac Mizrahi for Target - super classy! I let my mannequin where it sometimes. OK, most of the time. And for the party I layered the necklaces. Man, that choker really was tight!
Oh, and here's my only evidence that the night really happened since I did not take my camera. It'll last a couple weeks. Well, that's it for this week. I'll be keeping you posted!

New Stuff
- Saturday, January 20, 2007
Hi All!
This week has been very eventful for me. I went to my first PMC class on Tuesday. Very, very informative. I've already ordered 2 books on amazon about it to start looking for more ideas. In class I made an angel wing using a mold. I tried to make it a little indistinct and rough. I can't wait to see how it comes out. I'm thinking I will put it on a chain with a couple other charms, probably wire wrapped gemstones. I also rediscovered a couple of manmade stones I have - a CZ and a created sapphire - that I'm going to try in a ring or two.
I got my second positive feedback on ebay. Yay!
I've uploaded the entire Rose Quartz 2007 collection there. So go check it out! What are you waiting for !?!
I've also made an awesome necklace - actually two that coordinate - to wear to my friend Anita's Hafla Party she's throwing for her birthday this month. I can't wait to take photos of it and of the party! Can't forget my camera.
Here's an outfit I put together this week one day for work. I have the Rutilated Quartz memory wire necklace on. I think it looks so minimal and modern and still a little bit rough - a lot like a rough diamond but with cool rutilations.
Here are close-ups. I love my new camera! Check out that stone, huh!?!
Oh yes, and this handsome little devil is my youngest cat, Stanley (for Kubrick).
Well, my next mission is to work on another collection. Not sure which gemstone to tinker with next. Oh, and prep for a jewelry party. I'm attending one in February, just to see what one is like. So I won't have mine till after then. I'll keep ya'll posted! Well, anyway - thanks for checking me out this week!

More new stuff
- Monday, January 15, 2007
Well, my very good friend Chris came up with a very great idea for me to have a jewelry party at our friend Stacy's house. I've since talked to Stacy & she thinks it's a good idea too. So I guess we're all invited for whenever I can get my stuff together:)
I will admit, I'm a little shy about the idea - Me? Shy? I know, I know... But I really am. I don't feel like I have enough to offer right now. But I will be working on some new collections. I've just finished my Rose Quartz 2007 collection. The final necklace shows up in an outfit a little lower down - it's the one I wore today to work.
So, even though the party won't be soon, I will guarantee that it will happen & it will rock! And thanks Chris for the idea & thanks Stacy for offering to hostess. Obviously, I'll make some tasty desserts & we'll all bring our fabulousness!
So here are some outfits. Last week for dieting & excercise sucked. My mother-in-law was pushed over by her dog & broke her ankle in 3 places, I think it was. So, Monday was emergency room, Tuesday was next day appointment, Wednesday was surgery. You get the picture...
So this week I'm going to concentrate on eating smaller portions of more filling food. I'm back to bran muffin for breakfast & I got one of those crazy egg mcmuffin maker toasters. So it's egg mcmuffins with low-fat cheese & ham for lunch. The machine steams the egg, so there's no use of butter.
Anyway, the outfits...
Just a simple one. I think this was Monday. I wore the turquoise and white shell necklace with basic jeans & grey t-shirt & hoodie.

I wore this to drop mother-in-law at her appointment, go to work, pick mother-in-law up at her appointment, run her home, go back to work, then come home - whew. What a lot of driving that was. Ugh... Oh, I'm wearing the yellow jade chicklet necklace. It reminds me of candy.
This may have been surgery day - I don't remember. I hadn't even put on those pants in a long time because I've been afraid they wouldn't fit & I would cry - boo, hoo. They actually weren't too bad & were comfortable enough for working in (sitting on my ass). Still, they a lot snugger than I want them to be. I love the vest. It always reminds me of the photo of Britney Spears when she first lost the last baby weight & was out shopping in a sweater vest. What high hopes we had after that photo. Oh well... OK, I know what you're going to say (Chris!). The drastic color difference cuts me off right where I need it! On my short legs. Plus the pants really aren't flattering. I can't help but keep them, though, they're one of my only alternatives to shorts. Anyway, I'm wearing the new rose quartz & garnet necklace. It's longer than most of the ones I've made so far. Check it out on my ebay store!
Well, I've got to go. The oven buzzer is yelling at me. I hope you all enjoyed reading this weeks post. Bye!

Stylings with new Jewelry
- Sunday, January 07, 2007
Hi Guys!
Here's a couple of outfits I worked with some new jewelry sets:

These are with the new set I made as a challenge. I wanted to use rose quartz with pearls - I saw this somewhere. Then I thought - wouldn't pink pearls be great? So that's what I did. I made a matching necklace, bracelet & earrings set. I wore it with a dark brown tank sweater, jeans (of course) & a really versatile cream sweater from Target. You can tie this one a bunch of ways. The only problem is it's very snap prone. But right now it's a favorite.

The jewelry here was made for the company Christmas party. I wore a different, slightly nicer outfit, of course:) Anyway, the necklace is a olive-toned unidentified gemstone, the bracelet is made with the same sterling silver chain but has a Rutilated Quartz instead for the focal bead. I'm also wearing a bangle I made from some wire. It has a simple clasp built right in. The outfit is just one of my lazy day outfits. I love, love this Gap tshirt. It covers all my rolls and bumps AND works with any jewelry:) That's it for this week. I'll be trying to update on the weekend - each & every one, so keep checking back!

New Blog Idea
- Wednesday, January 03, 2007
Hi All!
I've been very busy setting up my ebay store & also doing the auction thing & shopping for a better camera for those close ups (found it!). And don't forget Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years... I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, by the way!
You can check the store out here - http://stores.ebay.com/MissAmyDesignsGemstoneJewelry.
I put up a couple of auctions today - starting at $0.01 with No Reserve! Snatch them up!
Anyway, I was thinking what direction to take the blog in today, since I'm no longer doing "assignments". And since anything I make will have a photo in my store it seems a little redundant to post every single photo here.
So...
Among other things I am going to try to style my pieces with real life clothes. Kind of like on www.StyleDiary.net but focused on jewelry. (If I had more confidence in my fashionista-dom I would actually post on that site, but as most of my clothes are from the Gap & Target I don't think I'm quite of that caliber - even though it's my favorite site & I check it everyday!)
A second benefit to taking photos of myself (ugh) is that it will be a record of my struggle with my weight & health. I've resolved to be more in control of what I eat & in general get healthier before I turn 30 this year. So, mainly, that means cutting down on sugar & desserts and doing some yoga every day. So, you can check up on me here:)
I will also continue to post photos & thoughts on any classes I take. PMC is coming up later this month! As you know, I've been waiting! Also, I may post occasionally on any challenges I give myself - like making a collection from a certain stone, trying a new technique, etc...
So, anyhow, I hope you will be entertained by the turn this blog will take & I hope that I will be more entertained & will update on a more regular basis!
Talk to you later!
