Sex and the City Premier Party

Tuesday Jun 1, 2010

First, let me say, I had a fabulous Friday night!  I had a nice dinner out & then coffee with a very good friend before going to the SATC2 event.  I skipped a photo of my outfit because it was so close to another I’ve worn before it would’ve been silly.

I met a different friend at the venue & checked in.  They gave us complimentary wine & popcorn.  The theater it was held at is quite possibly the ONLY theatre I will go to from now on despite the $15 price per ticket.  You can buy a bottle of wine to take with you into the show!  ‘Nough said.  Also, I’m irritated I forgot my camera since everyone was so well turned out for the event.  The dresses!  The shoes! So much fabulous all in one place!!!!  I couldn’t contain myself.

We chose seating the was not marked as reserved.  The top row for the best view!  While I was in the bathroom one of the women working at the event (she was wearing a white dress) told my friend to move.  Apparently she was really bitchy about needing the seat for a group of 10 that were running late and wanted to sit together.  When I got back my friend told me & so did the people in front of us that heard the whole thing.  They thought she was horrible!  My friend hadn’t moved & the eye-witnesses said the lady in white was down at the other end telling the other women in the row they needed to move since my friend wasn’t.  When I got back she asked me & my friend’s names.  Well, she disappeared for a while & came back.  The guy in front of us (that saw the original situation) got up & walked to the other end where she was talking to the other women in the row & started telling her off!  Oh. Em. Gee.  He was all, “Leave these ladies alone.  They all paid the  same price for their ticket.  If that group wanted to sit together they should have gotten her earlier….”  etc…, etc…  Of course, I’m paraphrasing – I can’t remember exactly what he said but it was along those lines.  He was all over it!  Loved it!  I wanted him to be my new best friend.  Could it have gotten any fabulous-er?

I really liked the movie, thought it was really cute.  Like they said before it came out – it was a “romp”.  I also thought the consumption was toned down a bit from the first movie.  Carrie & Big are in a smaller apartment, there wasn’t as much shopping, the clothes weren’t as much the focus (but were still fabulous!)  T Lo have a totally different opinionif you want to read it.  I appreciated their view as well & it kind of made me realize how ridiculous the issues were in the movie.  And the solutions LOL.  It was still just good girly fun.  It was like hanging out with your fab-best girlfriends.  Everyone in the theater was fun too.  I would attend another event like this.  It was a blast!

After the movie we hit the after party at Pure.  Meh, we pretty much grabbed our gift bags, met up with another friend & made a beeline to The Pub (which I’m beginning to think of as our hangout LOL).  The Pub was good fun.  I had another drink, some deep fried pickles (yum!) and trademarked the phrase “architecture for the breasts” (TM).

I got home & was in bed by 1:30am.  That was lovely as well.  Sleep, wonderful sleep.  I could actually use more right now!  I’ve been a little over scheduled lately.  Night night!

Oh wait, one more thing – gift bags!  They had a bunch of discounts for local businesses & Saks, a copy of the latest Gulfshore Life, some “lickable spray for intimate places” that smells (and tastes!) like caramel, a hair product sample size, a bumper sticker that reads “Got Film” (Naples International Film Festival was the main sponsor) and more.  My absolute favorite was the Nars lip gloss!  I don’t know if I can ever go back to drugstore lip glosses.  I swear there’s a difference!

Movie Fashion – The Proposal

Wednesday Nov 11, 2009

The Proposal was much funnier then I expected it to be.  I probably only really watched it because of Ryan Reynolds but it did make me laugh a lot.

1

Driven career woman working out in the morning.  Who actually wears athletic clothes to work out in their home – show of hands?

2

Uptight career woman chic.  Actually, I love it - so sharp!  I WISH I could be this immaculate.

3

Pashmina on the plane – this is a great color for her & they use it one more time in the movie.

4

Exiting the plane – I wanted to show the proportion of her skirt to her jacket.  Plus, there’s that gorgeous bag!

5

Accessory shot – yum to those wine leather gloves.

6

Same outfit as exiting the plane but here it looks more 50′s to me.

7

An extremely flattering grey dress – gorgeous!

8

Here she is at a bar – still all buttoned down

9

And this is where you start to see her character soften, after they had shared with each other

10

In the family wedding dress with the gifted necklace

11

On the boat leaving the island – still a bit softer

12

Less buttoned down than in the beginning – no harsh jacket – but still tucked in.  Maybe she is guarded but not as hard as she was at the start?

Any thoughts on how the fashion grew with the character?  And what about choice of colors?  I think they work well, following the arc of the character while flattering her the entire time.

Movie Fashion – Saw IV

Wednesday Oct 21, 2009

I am interested in movie/tv fashion. It’s always interesting to me how they choose to dress the female leads & keep the look consistent, while changing with their growth throughout the movie. So, one of my new projects is to photograph movie fashion to share on the blog.

I know the Saw IV is not a “fashionable” movie, as in well-dressed. But I watch all different kinds of movies & figure you can find inspiration anywhere, so why not keep my eyes open.

While I was doing this it really made me realize how there weren’t very many important women roles in Saw IV. Now, in Saw II & Saw III the Amanda character was very prominent, but in this one there were random women victims (which really, almost every character in any of the Saw movies is a victim) and Jigsaw’s ex-wife, who is seen in a grand total of 3 outfits. They also showed Amanda one time, in (I think) a flashback.

Anyway, on to the outfits:

I love this color pink. (Yep, she’s leaving him.)

PA160123

A domestic violence victim & later a Jigsaw victim.  How about that sweater set?  I’m not loving it but it’s good for her character.

PA160127

Amanda, usually turned out in goth-y style.  I kind of missed her since I like her off-beat, sort of dark outfits.

PA160128

Another victim before she gets snagged.

PA160122

Jigsaw’s ex-wife being questioned.  I like the jacket & the key necklace.  I am so not liking the button-down with them though.

PA160124

I like the classic trench.  The shoes were the worst.  I will spare you a photo.

PA160125

Here she is visiting Jigsaw after he went bat shit crazy.  Pink again…

I skipped some photo ops because they were too bloody or too boring.  There was a female FBI agent but I just couldn’t photograph her pantsuits.  Sorry.

Hope you enjoyed the first installment of “Movie Fashion”.  There will be more to come.
