Unless you’ve been living under a very unfashionable rock you will know that “tough” has been a sartorial touchstone for a while now. Anything with studs, grommets, leather, chains, even zippers are at the core of the look. I personally love the tough look – give me a pair of ripped jeans, harness boots & a leather jacket & I feel perfectly chic. Scarily that’s almost all my inspiration board consists of right now.
On my stop at Kohl’s the other day I found two necklaces that embody this look & I had to scoop them up. They were on clearance which made them all the sweeter! I put together a mini photo shoot with those & some other finds I’ve grabbed over the past couple years that equal the tough, chained look that is so right now. It will also extend into this fall & I can’t help but wonder if it will become a “don’t” a year from now. Personally, I think motorcycle jackets & a sturdy boots are already modern classics but I never thought ripped jeans would make a comeback. Who knew?

Purses: silver strap: Echo, $36 (clearance TJMaxx); gold strap: thrifted, $8

Necklaces, from top: Target pearl/chain ($7, clearance); Kohl’s chains with gem drops, $1.80 (90% off clearance); Kohl’s knotted chains, $3.80 (80% off clearance)
Here’s a fun color combo I worked the other day with my black velvet blazer & zebra striped flats.

I stopped at Kohl’s on the way home & bought a couple necklaces, a headband & a top. I’ll post about those soon.
I am interested in movie/tv fashion. It’s always interesting to me how they choose to dress the female leads & keep the look consistent, while changing with their growth throughout the movie. So, one of my new projects is to photograph movie fashion to share on the blog.
I know the Saw IV is not a “fashionable” movie, as in well-dressed. But I watch all different kinds of movies & figure you can find inspiration anywhere, so why not keep my eyes open.
While I was doing this it really made me realize how there weren’t very many important women roles in Saw IV. Now, in Saw II & Saw III the Amanda character was very prominent, but in this one there were random women victims (which really, almost every character in any of the Saw movies is a victim) and Jigsaw’s ex-wife, who is seen in a grand total of 3 outfits. They also showed Amanda one time, in (I think) a flashback.
Anyway, on to the outfits:

I love this color pink. (Yep, she’s leaving him.)

A domestic violence victim & later a Jigsaw victim. How about that sweater set? I’m not loving it but it’s good for her character.

Amanda, usually turned out in goth-y style. I kind of missed her since I like her off-beat, sort of dark outfits.

Another victim before she gets snagged.

Jigsaw’s ex-wife being questioned. I like the jacket & the key necklace. I am so not liking the button-down with them though.

I like the classic trench. The shoes were the worst. I will spare you a photo.

Here she is visiting Jigsaw after he went bat shit crazy. Pink again…
I skipped some photo ops because they were too bloody or too boring. There was a female FBI agent but I just couldn’t photograph her pantsuits. Sorry.
Hope you enjoyed the first installment of “Movie Fashion”. There will be more to come.
I am officially an Avon lady! Woo!
I used to sell Avon a looooong time ago & actually ended up spending more than I made but it was fun. I’m hoping to actually make some money this time but I don’t want to get too serious about it either. So, I’ll keep it fun by doing photo shoots with the items I test out & let you know what I think of them. (I’m particularly interested in their chunky costume rings!)
More details to come once I have an Avon site up & running.
Update: The avon site is up here & the link is on my sidebar under “Find Me”. You know, in case you want some Avon!
I am still alive & kicking!
I had some really great ideas this morning so watch out for new posts. I have a couple intriguing ideas to punch it up a bit.
