What To Do With an Odd-Colored Shoe

June 19th, 2009 · 5 Comments

I have these great pale celery colored suede pointy-toes loafers by Franco Sarto.  It’s a mouthful, I know.  Not only are they wordy to describe, they also present quite a challenge when it comes to wearing them since I have no other piece of clothing in that particular color.

Well, I found that the exact same shade is present in one of my purses.  It’s a thrifted Morris Moskowitz leather lady purse in an amazing zig-zag-y pattern.  I think I put the pale blue tank with them next as the similar tones in pastels usually complement each other.  I added the sweater for a little more cover.  Lastly, I realized that the necklace below (a first anniversary gift) has both the pale blue & pale greens in it as well as working with the gold on the handbag.

So, this is the outfit.

What would you wear with these shoes if you didn’t have a stitch of clothing in that color?  I’m sure you’ll help me out for next time I want to wear them!

I really like this outfit that you pulled together around your shoes. I especially like your T.

As far as what I would wear the shoes with… I don’t think they have to match some color somewhere else in your outfit, they just have to compliment it. So wearing other muted complimentary colors would be great too. So maybe some muted oranges or browns?

They would look great with anything murky or pastel. Cream, olive, rust, mustard, thunder blue etc. But keep them away from black.

I think the combination worked out nicely. What I often tend to do with unusually colored shoes is get a few accessories with the color, like a necklace, scarf or bracelet. Then the color can repeat in the outfit without being overwhelming or matchy-matchy.

    Really like your combination’s.

Not too mention your eye for thrift.

You have lovely hair and agree with
bluerose on color scheme. The lovely
    grey flats direct almost immediately
    to your T.

    And that necklace is gorgeous.

    :-)

@Tina – I think I will try them with some muted browns & oranges could be VERY interesting!

    @bluerose – Yes! Creams & olives – right on!

@Diana – I will definitely be keeping my eyes open for more accessories in this color. They are after all very comfy shoes that I overlook a lot.

@Verity – Thanks for the lovely compliments! The secret to the hair is: I wash it at night, sleep on it & comb in the morning. I do color it but stay away from heat & styling. Because I’m lazy.
