It’s not the most inventive outfit but I do like the combo of safari elements – leopard print, leather, sandals – paired with the nautical stripes and wide leg pants. The belts were $5 each at TJMaxx & they have pewter studs all the way round - I just buckled them together then wrapped them twice & buckled again. I think the sandals were $10 – I’ve been wanting a gladiator style for a while. They’re Coconuts brand – never heard of them – but they are leather. I’m always behind on the trends LOL. It’s funny though, it seems like all the trends slowly become classics after being around a few seasons.
Have I told you how jealous I am that so many of the fashion bloggers out there have gotten to attend & cover the shows this past week? Well, I am. I think. I mean, the fashion – I die (or I pee – if you read the Bubble)! But the crowds, the mess, the stress, the total unorganization of it all… I just don’t know. I don’t know if it would all sit right with my total anality. I guess I’m happy to watch the shows vicariously (but quietly) through a group of such amazing & articulate bloggers. Never mind the fact that you guys score the best runway pictures! Wheeeee! I’m short & would never have a front row seat -<wink>. You guys never let me down.
Anyway, I got up to a bit of my own fashion show fun, on my own, in my southwestern corner of Florida during the weekend. Two of my really good friends were starring on the catwalk of a local fashion show/luncheon put on by the Fort Myers Chapter of the IAAP (which they are both involved in). The benefit raised money for their scholarship fund but it also gave me a chance to flex my (very awkward) press muscle. I had full backstage access as well as spending time with good friends! Wonderful Cloris came down from the Cape Coral Belkto provide all the fashion as well as commentary & plenty of prizes. I personally won a door prize provided by the Party Lite rep in attendance – a nice little candle kit with lots of smellies. Some of my favorite pics are below:
My adorable friend Stacy in our favorite of her outfits – a black & white combo with a tie-dyed top. Hanging out with her is always so much fun.
Here we were backstage, pawing through the goods. That’s my friend Chris with her paws all over everything. I chose not to leave prints LOL.
My personal favorite from the entire show – this painterly graphic skirt. I like how raw the pattern looks. Imagine it worn as a strapless dress with a black satin sash just under the bust. Now, add some killer heels – with spikes.
And here is Chris modeling her fierce & sassy look in anything but boring neutrals. I love how the abstract print calls up leopard print as well as how amazing all these colors look on her.
That was my foray into the world of the local catwalk. I do intend to try to cover more local events like this so stay tuned for more Southwest Florida fashion culture!
Here I am in my $3 dress from TJMaxx’s clearance rack. It had unraveled at the top of the waistband on the right so I sewed it back together. Plus the off-white trim had gotten a bit mucky. Washing took care of that. It’s I.N.C. brand & had the original tags for $99 on it. So, what’s that? A 97% discount in trade for a little TLC.
On the same day I also picked up:
A knit Laundry dress that resembles Missoni for $5 that needed some pulls yanked back through the backside & tied off aaaaaand…
A black Tahari halter dress for $7. A tear is starting on that which I won’t be able to fix but for now it’s wearable.
Details: I.N.C. dress ($3), Target cami (reg price), LizFlex sandals ($20), Maurizio Tauiti handbag ($50 or 60)
I absolutely ADORE this great idea for making your purse changes go much faster. I might change my bag every day if I made myself this little handy guy!
I actually spent some time in TJMaxx recently & got out of the store with only spending around $12. I know, ca-razy, right? No taking out a second mortgage, no promising my firstborn, no signing away my soul. In blood. Just $12 plus tax. I am still amazed at that visit. Anyway…
This is what I nabbed: 3 Dimri scarves – $10 for all 3 & 2 American Eagle bangles – $1.99. The bracelets are my new favorites! They go great with the couple other sterling bracelets I wear a lot. And the scarves have been added to the vast collection. They are fitting in nicely with the others, I’m glad to report…
The third scarf is similar to the one in the bottom pic but it fades from deep red to black. I haven’t worn it yet. I’m sure you’ll know when I do!

Here’s this week’s batch of goodies. I was lazy & only got three things up but I really think they’re great things! I really wish the shoes were my size but alas, it was not to be. Good luck to all!
Here’s another Target score. I am so in love lately with these ladylike tops, especially when they have a tie at the neck. This one was found on the clearance rack (me, clearance? no freakin’ way!). It was $12, which actually is a little high for me. But I tried it on, really liked it & marched up to the checkout. Well, they were taking 30% off clearance that day so it ended up being, what, $8? Awesome! It’s a gorgeous mix of deep colors against black in an abstract paisley print and pairs fabulously with my dark trouser style jeans.
Details: Madden Girl heels, Willi Smith trouser jeans, Target blouse, Wet Seal jacket, Ralph Lauren belt, Target necklace, bracelets from Ebay & American Outfitters (via TJMaxx)
Here is yet another sequin post. I’ve been stocking up slowly – it sure has snuck up on me. This outfit was actually based on figuring out what to do with a strip of sequins left over from my bracelet experiment. I just wrapped the darn thing around my neck & tacked it there with a cute little bee pin. Observe:
I’m sure from far away the outfit looked like a typical jeans & hoodie combo but I really like that there really was so much more to it close up: the jewelry & the layers plus the softness of the sweater.

Here’s another outfit that came together due to the closet chaos. Also, I was longing to be cozy & comforted. It’s definitely not figure flattering in any sort of way. The sweater is an interesting cardi by BCBG that can be worn right side up & upside down. This is as the second of the two. I paid $30 for it on clearance at their outlet – a splurge, but it’s fantastically soft & interesting. I do know the jeans & sneakers threw this outfit all sorts of off, but it truly was comfortable and hey, they kept my legs warm!
I really just like how this all looks together – the creaminess & the softness
Details: Skechers sneakers (I know, totally lame choice, esp in black), Willi Smith jeans, BCBG nightgowny dress/top, BCBG cardi, DKNY infinity scarf ($29 at Marshalls, another splurge)

My awesome husband recently extended the tile that is in our master bathroom right on through my closet – yay! So, during the creation of the new floor the contents of my closet were scattered throughout our house. In my office, the guest bed, our bedroom, etc…
Usually I am very organized but after this little exercise I feel that sometimes that can lead to stagnation. Even though I’m so anal I could never exist in chaos I realized that out of their normal order, colors & things caught my eye in a way they wouldn’t on the average day. I have a rack of things to be re-conned in my office & some of my closet ended up hanging out with them. I noticed how well the colors this embroidered vest worked with other bits I had. So, I pulled it off the re-con rack & threw this mess together.
Also, it was cold, so layers were called for. I felt really cozy in this & a bit daring as well.
Hugging myself LOL
Outfit details: Bass boots, Target leggings ($7), Roxy dress ($7), Ingenue cardi (a splurge at $29, I think), Art & Soul embroidered vest ($2, tjmaxx), gold-tone key necklace from Walmart, scarf – tjmaxx, hat – Target, belt – tjmaxx, bracelets – Target dollar section + diy, rings – Target & ebay
